Digital Drawings and Photo Collage
Perfume
A personal project, I was thinking about the mix of all the sources of fragrance in my favorite perfumes.
Wild Geese
This is another personal project based on Mary Oliver’s poem, “Wild Geese.” One of my favorite lines from the poem is “…the world offers itself to your imagination, calls you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting….”
Joaquin Phoenix
This is an imagined project. On the cover of the November 2019 issue, the magazine Vanity Fair featured Joaquin Phoenix photographed clothed and wet in a pool. This might be a good editorial illustration to reference the story about him in a later issue or on the internet. Based on the photo by Ethan James Green.
Eddie Murphy
Likewise, the 26th Hollywood Issue of Vanity Fair magazine featured, among others, Eddie Murphy on the cover in an orange-hot, dusty motorcycle photoshoot. This might be a good editorial illustration to reference the story about him. Based on the photo by Ethan James Green.
Spring Flowering Plant Sale
Here is an illustration created for the annual flowering plant sale organized by the Rogers Park Garden Group in my neighborhood in Chicago. The theme was “Flowers to the People!” I wanted the illustration to have a powerful appearance but still have the lilt of flowers and springtime.
Book Cover Concept
Addressing the age-old question, “Could it be love?” this book cover was designed for Sourcebooks, Inc. It, as in love many times, did not get past the concept stage, unfortunately.
Bride and Groom Sticky Notes
I illustrated the covers and interior pages of these novelty gift books for brides and grooms. There are three color variations on ten different page designs for each of the books of notes. The idea was to regale your soon-to-be-spouse, friends, and loved ones with pre-printed messages on these sticky notes to remind them the knot was soon to be tied.
Wild Geese
Mary Oliver’s poem appears again in this photo collage. She writes, “Meanwhile the sun and clear pebbles of rain are moving across the landscapes….”
Web Banners
Here is a group of digital illustrations for Crain Communication’s on-line magazine Workforce. I meshed and manipulated images from royalty-free stock to create on-line images that best conveyed the topic of the article. The grey stripes at the bottom of each are where digital captions appeared.
